OVER the last six weeks of hustings, pledges and debates, there has been consensus: the independence movement is more than one person, it’s a team effort.
So, even though the dominant political party of the independence movement has elected a new leader, we all have an equally important role to play.
That’s why we are launching our brand new tier of membership.
We’ve curated benefits specially for Team Yes members, ones that we hope unite the movement and support independence messaging.
We are the only pro-independence newspaper in Scotland. We are a small but dedicated team that strives to tell in-depth stories that mainstream media doesn't want to face. As a Team Yes member, the first thing you'll do is support the newspaper that stands up for Scotland.
One of the most exciting parts of your membership is having a direct line to the newsroom. You will be able to chat with our journalists day-to-day, as well as other team members through our exclusive and private groups online.
You will then be able to brainstorm with us on what we should ask the Scottish public. We are going to continue to commision regular polling on politics, opinions, and independence. As a Team Yes member, you can contribute questions which will create news stories.
You will receive our welcome gift pack with exclusive and new merchandise from The National, as well as a letter from our new editor.

To make sure it's not all online, every quarter you will receive an invite to hybrid events with top columnists, guests, and of course, other members!
You will also of course receive all of the usual benefits: unlimited access to thenational.scot, the digital edition of the paper, ad-light access to coverage, puzzles access, Reader Rewards, and other exciting benefits!
We are very excited to launch this new tier of subscription. We hope to continue expanding our connection with you, our reader, and we hope you’ll join the team.
Terms and conditions apply. Gift pack available to new first-time Team Yes subscribers in the UK only. Offer is exempt from gifting subscriptions. Subscription auto-renews unless cancelled. All subscriptions can be cancelled and refunded within 14 days of purchase. After the completion of grace period, the gift will be posted within 60 days. Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
