ACTOR Alan Cumming will be honoured with an Academy Award for his outstanding contribution to film and television at the Scottish Baftas next month.
Born in the small town of Aberfeldy, Cumming, 53, trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Cumming said: “I couldn’t be happier or more proud. I shot my first ever film in Glasgow and my first few years in the business were nearly all spent in the employ of Scottish television, so my roots in acting for the screen are very entrenched in Scotland. And, of course, my heart is too.”
Cumming found success in film, television and theatre with notable roles in the blockbuster film X2, the hit American series The Good Life and the award-winning Hamlet.
The actor has worked with legendary film director Stanley Kubrick and has been described by Time magazine as one of the most fun people in showbiz. Outstanding contribution awards will also be presented to production designer Pat Campbell and producer Paddy Higson.
Higson’s work includes The Magdalene Sisters, Gregory’s Girl and Monarch of the Glen while Wolf Hall, The State and The Promise are on Campbell’s CV.
Campbell has worked in the film and television industries for almost 30 year, and recently designed the BBC Christmas production of War of the Worlds.
Jude MacLaverty, director of BAFTA Scotland, said: “We are delighted to be presenting this year’s Outstanding Contribution Awards to three truly exceptional recipients, each representing stand-out talent in their fields.
“Alan, Pat and Paddy have created incredible work that is not only recognised by their peers and the public, but that inspires future generations of film and TV makers. We’re honoured to present their awards and look forward to recognising their outstanding achievements on November 4.”
The ceremony will be hosted by Edith Bowman and will take place at Glasgow’s Radisson Blu Hotel.
