CAMPAIGNERS gathered outside the Scottish Parliament yesterday in a bid to put public transport into public hands.

More than 10,000 people signed a petition calling for a bus company owned by the people in Glasgow.

Although 2000 people told a Scottish Government consultation they want councils to be given the power to run their own operators, the Transport Bill currently being reviewed does not include such a provision.

Friends of the Earth Scotland says this must change. Campaigner Emilia Hanna said: “There is huge demand.

“People are very angry at poor bus services across many areas. Private bus companies are failing.”
