FAMILIES are promised music and noise as kids take over a Scottish town.
The Wee Spree will hit Paisley next month and includes a number of musical events.
This includes a free fun day by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO), who will also bring “bewitching musical fun” inspired by the Julia Donaldson picture book Room on the Broom.
Gaelic music workshops and a ceilidh trail will also be on the programme, which coincides with the Renfrewshire town’s annual music and comedy festival, The Spree.
A “mobile auditorium” will also tour the area backed by local choirs as the National Theatre of Scotland presents new work developed by Germany’s Rimini Protokoll.
And parents and kids can share the “gig experience” through Sprog Rock and Mini Manoeuvers events scheduled for the opening weekend.
Louisa Mahon, head of marketing, communications and events at Renfrewshire Council, said: “The Wee Spree is always a huge hit with families and this year’s October week looks amazing. We have had great fun designing the programme with all of our venues and artists and we are delighted to see places booking up fast.
“We have music, comedy, storytelling, acrobatics and song, all taking place in the heart of the town centre – 10 minutes from Glasgow City Centre by train. So, for anyone looking for ways to fill the October holidays – we can guarantee a great day out at this year’s Spree festival.”
Adult-focused events include appearances by acts including Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Toni Iommi of Black Sabbath, The Orb, and Janey Godley.
Stand-up Des Clarke, ex-Kraftwerk member Wolfgang Flür and indie favourites The Pastels are also included, as are Gang of Four, Duke Special and Aidan Moffat & RM Hubbert.
