MAJOR figures on the left of the independence movement will discuss collective opposition to the Sustainable Growth Commission report at a gathering in Edinburgh next month.

The Scottish Socialist Voice forum will take place at the Grassmarket Centre on Saturday, September 15, from 10am.

Speakers will include former SNP MP and The National columnist George Kerevan, Colin Fox of the Scottish Socialist Party, Paul Shan of the RMT trade union executive and leading economist Margaret Cuthbert

A spokesman for the event said: “The publication of the Sustainable Growth Commission report, led by former MSP Andrew Wilson, was billed as a “silver bullet” which would clinch the case for independence.

“Instead it has been met by a barrage of criticism for its essentially pro-market neoliberal approach particularly its plans for years of continuing austerity.

“As the only socialist newspaper written, edited and produced in Scotland, the Voice supports independence as a way to transform the lives and living standards of Scotland’s working-class majority whose votes are the key to victory.”
