A TEAM of school pupils from Scotland are to compete in the world finals of an F1 challenge in Singapore in September.

Team AcceleRace, an all-girl side from Linlithgow Academy in West Lothian represented Scotland at the UK national finals of the competition at Silverstone in March this year and there they qualified to compete at the world finals.

The S3 pupils are sponsored by IT recruitment firm Cathcart Associates who helped them raise the £10,000 needed to travel to Singapore.

F1 in Schools is a global, multi-disciplinary challenge in which students aged nine to 19 design and race miniature, compressed air powered cars.

During the national finals, Team AcceleRace fielded the fastest car in the UK, an achievement that puts them in a great position for success in Singapore.

Gordon Kaye of Cathcart Associates said: “As a racing aficionado, we jumped at the chance to support this talented team.”
