The National:

RUMOURS are circulating that the SNP have a Westminster surprise planned for tonight.

It's Estimates Day in the House of Commons – three such days take place each year, and they see MPs consider the estimates of public spending by government departments.

Yes, it's usually as dull as that makes it sound.

However ... the Guido Fawkes blog has reported a rumour that tonight could be a bit more fun.

Normally, the number of votes on Estimates Day are minimised, to the point where are sometimes none at all.

But with the England match against Colombia tonight, Tory MPs are being warned of an "SNP plot".

Members of the SNP could force votes – meaning MPs would have to spend their evening in division lobbies rather than watching the England match.

A senior SNP source told us: "All I can say is that there are a couple of voteable motions up for consideration at about 7pm in which we may have an interest..."

It would be a beautiful move.

Immediately after a key debate on the Brexit power grab last month, Tory MP Steve Brine boasted: "I'm very grateful to the members from the SNP party [sic] for allowing us to watch the match."

He couldn't be bothered paying attention to the huge ramifications of the EU Withdrawal Bill on Scotland ... so watched England instead.

Forcing the MPs to do their job would be a lovely form of revenge.
