ORANGE walk season is underway, with today's main event taking place in Fife, where DUP leader Arlene Foster is expected to attend.
The politician accepted an invite to today's event – which is already underway – organised by the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland, in Cowdenbeath, Fife. The walk is one of several planned across the country.
Foster will be the main speaker at the Cowdenbeath parade, which is one of the biggest in Scotland and involves lodges from Fife, Edinburgh, the Lothians and elsewhere in the central belt.

Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland executive officer Robert McLean said he believes it is the first time she has attended one of the Boyne celebration parades in Scotland.
Predictably, some of the locals are not happy with the presence of the Orange Order in their areas.

This’ll be Cowdenbeath’s most embarrassing afternoon since they lost 10-0 to Hearts. https://t.co/9GH8fjpqhX

Arlene Foster is participating in an Orange Order Walk in Cowdenbeath today! There is no room in British politics for such sectarianism! And no money for the 100 officers required to police it! A fine bed fellow indeed for the PM!

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
