A CROWDFUNDING page raising money to set up a bench in memory of Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison raised almost £5000 in just 24 hours – and is now sitting at almost £7500.

The 36-year-old musician sadly took his own life in May, and now friends and fans of the band are organising a memorial bench.

The massive support for the crowdfunder means cash will also go to supporting others who are going through mental health issues.

Ade Cartwright, who set up the JustGiving page, had hoped to raise £1500 for the bench, but more than £4800 was raised in just 24 hours.

Additional funds will be donated to charity, with the possibility of a second memorial bench also being bought.

Cartwright said: “Scott inspired and helped so many people not only through his lyrics but also through his genuine connection with his fans. Everyone could relate to him and he had time for everyone.

“I wanted to set up the JustGiving page so that everyone who knew Scott or had been touched by his music had a place to go and remember him.

"I thought if we could at least raise a couple of hundred pounds towards the bench it would make all the difference but I had no idea just how kind people would be and how much we would raise, it is amazing.”

Ade has also set up a Facebook group called Scott’s Bench, where there will be a chance to vote for where the bench will be placed in Glasgow.
