Emmeline Pankhurst: The Making of a Militant

BBC4, 7.30pm A HIGHLIGHT of the TV month was Michelle Keegan’s face when she realised the part Emmeline Pankhurst played in her distant relative’s life. If that episode of Who Do You Think You Are? proved intriguing, then this profile of the suffragette leader should colour in a lot of the grey areas left by that documentary and the Meryl Streep movie, Suffragette. Actress Sally Lindsay takes a look at the personal loves, losses and political passions that transformed this working mother from Manchester into a militant activist campaigning for votes for women.

The Family Farm BBC2, 8pm

THE first of a new four-part series sees Kate Humble present a show in which three families agree to work on a North Wales hill farm, living in a purpose-built yurt village. And if that sounds like a lot of hard work, you’d be right. Hill farming is exhausting enough on the best of days, but when the weather is not so kind, it will push the brave participants to their limits. Episode one focuses on working with sheep, which must be gathered, sheared and sold at market.

With the victim untraceable, the police declare her a high-risk missing person. Cameras follow every twist and turn of the investigation.
