The National:

A NEW video suggests that an excuse given by the Tory MP under fire over his shout of "suicide" at the SNP is complete nonsense.

Ian Liddell-Grainger could be heard shouting "suicide" as points of order were made on the Brexit Bill debate, after SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford asked what options Scottish MPs had to ensure more debate.

WATCH: Tory MP in vile 'suicide' heckle towards SNP in Commons

Despite facing criticism from a mental health charity, the Tory MP doubled down, saying he had meant "political suicide", and labelled the SNP a "petty bunch of wankers who have ruined my country – I am a Scotsman".

That wasn't his only excuse, however. Speaking to the Somerset County Gazette he said: "I was misquoted.

"I wasn't even in the chamber, I wasn't even there when they made the point of order. It was during Points of Order, not even in the main debate, around 10 minutes after I'd left."

Bizarre, given him saying he was misquoted, but a video by Twitter user Sarah Mackie (@lumi_1984) has now demolished that claim entirely.

Liddell-Grainger could even have tried going half-way – saying he meant "political suicide", but was sorry for wording it poorly.

But no. In true Tory style, he runs with it despite all the criticism, video evidence be damned.

As a Tory MP is widely condemned for blocking a Bill to criminalise upskirting, the party's politicians continue the battle to be the most shameful.
