The National:

EARLIER today, the Scottish man who became an alt-right celebrity after teaching his dog to do a Nazi salute (see here, and here, and here) declared that he was going to join Ukip if he could receive 10,000 retweets of a tweet about the party.

He's got more than 7000 retweets so far. Now, to The Jouker that's not the best way to decide whether you join a political party (a power grab debate that only last 15 minutes, though? Sure...), but we live in a free country and he's entitled to do whatever he wants.

And just because we can't work out whether he actually wants to join the party or he's set a target he hopes he won't hit, doesn't mean that we aren't slightly impressed by his shameless self-promotion.

It is, however, very strange that the governing body of Scotland's local authorities should want to join in. But that's exactly what Cosla appeared to do when they retweeted the tweet.

The National:

Is there an intern working the social media today? Was it an accidental click of the mouse? Perhaps the collective voice of Scotland's councils really does want an infamous Nazi salute dog-whispering alt-right activist from North Lanarkshire to join a bigoted political party.

None of the above, actually. It turns out, according to Cosla's Twitter, that the account was in fact "compromised".

It did take them a while to notice though ...
