PAPERS lodged with planning officials show what Flamingo Land bosses aim to bring to Balloch.
Their proposals 105 holiday lodges, a 60-bed aparthotel and budget accommodation for 32 people.
Architects have also drawn up proposals for a monorail, swimming pool and water park.
The scheme includes provision for a tree-top walkway and forest adventure facility, as well as restaurant and brewery space with pub facilities, as well as 20 houses.
Additional visitor reception and hub areas are planned, as are children’s play areas, with space also set aside for live performances.
The blueprints, available to view on the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park website, also include picnic areas, a 320-space car park and landscaping.
The facade of Woodbank House, a grade-A listed building, would be retained and developers would enhance tree planting along the River Leven to “encourage a greater mix of native trees” and bring in other plants common to the region.
But the application also anticipates “habitat loss” for red squirrels and “injury and fatality” to them and otters. Compensatory measures would be introduced.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
