SCOTTISH Labour has failed to organise a piss-up in a brewery after inviting racism row MP Hugh Gaffney as a "special guest".

The party was criticised after inviting the politician to a mini version of "Jez Fest" that will take place in the Drygate Brewery.

Gaffney made racist and homophobic remarks at a recent Burns Night celebration.

A Scottish Labour source speaking to the Scottish Sun said: “Members will rightly question if this is a sensible use of their money.

“Billing Hugh Gaffney as a special guest is insulting, given his racist and homophobic comments. They could have just booked Bernard Manning to compere.”

The ad for the event lists Gaffney alongside jazz acts and, of course, Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard.

The SNP’s Humza Yousaf said: “For Labour to proudly bill racist MP Hugh Gaffney as a ‘special guest’, having failed to take disciplinary action against him, is frankly a disgrace.

“Not only is Richard Leonard doing nothing to stop Gaffney’s appearance, he is actually sharing a stage with him.”
