The Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the help of local school children, who helped fill a commemorative time capsule.

Encased in a whisky barrel, the time capsule contains work from Royal Mile primary school pupils, a photo of 90 staff and pupils and a celebratory message in an exclusive bottle of 30-year old scotch released this month.

The renowned visitor attraction has spent around £8 million on upgrades since 2009, including the establishment of the Diageo Claive Vidiz collection – 3384 historic bottles in a marble and glass vault.

To celebrate its success since opening in 1988, the Amber restaurant bar is also offering a unique flight of four whiskies, including one from each decade since the attraction’s opening.

Director Susan Morrison said: “It’s incredible to think that we have welcomed 6.8m visitors in the past 30 years and we are very excited to see what the next 30 will bring.”
