With the SNP's Growth Commission about to be revealed, the Tories thought they saw an open goal that would play well for their core audience - but they just ended up looking a bit daft instead.
Anyone paying attention will know that the Tories haven't had much to say over the past few years other than "No to a second referendum".
Some say you could even hear their anti-independence cries echoing across the Highlands on a moonlit night - regardless of whether or not anyone else had even mentioned leaving the UK.
So with the the publication of the Growth Commission's finding, they saw the chance to shout about independence once more in a way that actually made sense. Or so they thought.
The Scottish Tories released a video that called on Nicola Sturgeon to "give it a rest" when it came to chatting about independence....
...and Nicola Sturgeon's response absolutely floored them.
Says the party obsessed with Brexit and whose leader is speaking today at an event called ‘The Union and Unionism’. Tories’ objection is not to a debate about the constitution - their objection is to a debate in which the independence case is heard. https://t.co/zQUMumGb1W

The Tories, while calling on Nicola Sturgeon to haud her weesht over independence, seem to have forgotten that their own leader is speaking at an event called "The Union and Unionism" today.
Hypocritical, much?
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
