SCOTLAND'S biggest city was chosen as the filming location for a new television series starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Patrick Melrose, which began airing this week, is just the latest big-budget production to be shot in Glasgow, following in the footsteps of the likes of World War Z and T2 Trainspotting.

The new five-part series, based on the acclaimed novels by Edward St Aubyn, saw Glasgow transformed into 1980s New York and The National has managed to get its hands on the before and after pictures.

Cambridge-based Vine FX was the company tasked with adding the visual effects and were involved every step of the way – from the filming in Glasgow through to adding the New York skyline, and to making sure no modern objects, such as mobile phones, could be spotted.
