IT’S shaping up to be spectacular and memorable, so the Yes M8 event this Saturday will probably not get a mention in the Scottish broadcasting media.

Everything is in place for a successful demonstration of pro-Yes flags and banners along the length of the M8 motorway from Edinburgh to Greenock.

The event runs from 11am to 1pm and will see at least 40 individual demonstrations at bridges along central Scotland’s main motorway and has no shortage of volunteers prepared to show flags and banners in what the organisers are confident will be a very visual sign of the Yes movement’s strength.

Following on from the success of the pro-devolution Hands Off Our Parliament (HOOP) protest, the DIY YesM8 event is intended to show that support for independence extends right across the Central Belt.

Police Scotland have worked closely with the Yes M8 organisers and strict rules have been adopted, including the need to pre-register to take part.

It doesn’t stop there for the Yea movement this weekend. On Sunday, Bridges for Indy will hold their On The Shoulders of Giants event at Arbroath to commemorate the 698th anniversary of the Declaration of Arbroath.

A spokesman said: “We will be asking 100 people to sign a new declaration that will stay true to the original but substituting the United Nations for the Catholic Church as the main world body of influence and we will be sending the finished document to them in New York.”
