FORMER Catalan Minister Clara Ponsati joined lawyer Aamer Anwar outside Edinburgh Sheriff Court, as a crowd chanted her name in a show of solidarity.

Anwar read her a statement on Ponsati's behalf after she was released on bail, having been placed under arrest following a European Arrest Warrant.

The solicitor had to ask the crowd to pause their chants for the University of St Andrews lecturer.

Scots have continued to show their support for Professor Ponsati, with Spain accusing her of "violent rebellion and misappropriation of public funds".

Ponsati denies the charges, and says they are politically motivated as a result of her support for Catalan independence.
