AT the beginning of the 1980s, 42 per cent of the population lived in social housing. That figure is now below eight per cent, with more than 1.3 million people on the social housing waiting list. This documentary examines the story behind the neglect, demolition and regeneration of council estates in the UK over the past three decades. It reveals how individuals and communities in Glasgow, London and Nottingham are clashing with the state and private developers as they attempt to save their homes from demolition.

Are You Autistic?, Channel 4, 10pm

A DOCUMENTARY challenging what people think about autism, exploring myths surrounding the condition and examining what living with autism is really like in the UK today. Anna Richardson, whose nephew has been recently diagnosed, and campaigners Georgia Harper and Sam Ahern, who are both autistic, set out to uncover the true face of autism in the UK. In a unique experiment, a team of leading experts, including Prof Liz Pellicano of University College London, adapt their research exclusively for the programme, and test two adults who think they need of a diagnosis.

The Secret Helpers, BBC 2, 8pm

THIS time, 55-year-old David turns to strangers for advice dealing with a family crisis. Since his father’s dementia has worsened, David feels like he is struggling to connect with him and other family members, and hopes that the Secret Helpers, including Gwen and Elisa from South Africa, and Lilian from Norway, may be able to give him advice on how to overcome these issues.

Mission: Kill Hitler, Yesterday, 8pm

THERE were numerous attempts to assassinate Adolf Hitler, both before and during the Second World War, and they all ended in failure. This looks at one such mission, which remained a secret until the 1990s and came closer than most to succeeding. Known as Operation Foxley, it was a plan to murder Hitler during his daily morning walk at the Berghof, his Bavarian residence. Using declassified documents from the British Secret Services, the film looks at how the killing would have been carried out.
