BREXIT and its effects on farming will be the topic when farmer and newspaper columnist Alec Ross is the guest speaker at a public meeting in West Linton in the Scottish Borders tonight.

One of the leading lights in the Farming for Yes campaign, Stranraer farmer Ross will be speaking at St Andrew’s New Church Hall in West Linton from 7.30pm.

The meeting is being sponsored by Yes Linton, the new pro-independence group which has been established in the village.

At its most recent meeting, Yes Linton, which is avowedly a non-party organisation, discussed the group’s draft constitution drawn up by local man Colin Torrance, which will be finalised at the next meeting in March.

The group also began the process of drawing up its own manifesto, which will deal both with national issues of independence and local matters that require positive input.

A spokesperson for Yes Linton said: “We are still in the early days of our existence, but obviously this area is dependent on farming and farmers, so we are delighted to sponsor tonight’s event and hope that as many people as possible can come along to hear Alec Ross’s considered views on Brexit and its impact on farming and consumers.”
