YOUNG pipers are being called on to take part in a documentary celebrating Scotland’s youth bands.
Piping at Forres is creating a short film and is looking for pipers and drummers under the age of 25 to take part.
The documentary comes amid celebrations of Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018, and will also promote the European Pipe Band Championships, which end their six-year run in Forres in June.
More senior band members can also get involved, explaining how to get youngsters taking part.
Joanna Taylor, director of Piping at Forres organisers Forres Events Ltd,said: “We want to hear from bands, pipe majors or individuals who have something to say about young people, piping and its future.
“We know that there is a huge youth element within the piping communities. At Piping At Forres in 2017, we had more than 1000 competitors under the age of 18, which was a terrific figure.
“However, we also know from speaking to bands that some are concerned that they struggle to recruit those younger members who will ensure the future of the bands for years to come.”
With a deadline of March 7, those who want to get involved are to contact Chit Chat PR & Digital on 01309 641354 or email claire@chitchat.scot.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
