AN UNKNOWN bidder has spent £15,000 to have lunch with Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson.
The MSP was one of the main draws in the auction at the Tory party’s annual fundraising Black and White ball, with a fierce bidding war breaking out.
Davidson attracted far more than her Brexiteer colleague Liam Fox, who went for £2000.
A spokesman for the Scottish Tories said he didn’t know who had won lunch with Davidson: “Provided they pick a venue that serves good Diet Coke, the successful bidder will be in for a thoroughly enjoyable time.”
Tables at the event in London’s Natural History Museum were reportedly going for as much as £10,000.
However, the top draw at the event was a day spent shadowing the Prime Minister, with another unknown supporter spending £55,000 to do so.
Lunch with Gavin Williamson, Theresa May’s defence secretary and one of the frontrunners to replace her when she steps down, went for £30,000, and was reportedly won by a Russian.
One controversial guest at the Tory do was Gary Goldsmith, the uncle of the Duchess of Cambridge, who last November was fined £5000 and ordered to do a year of rehabilitation after punching his wife to the floor and knocking her out.
Guests leaving the shindig found it hard to get a ride home, after black cab drivers turned up to protest May’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos last month.
The Prime Minister had said while Uber had got things wrong, they should not be shut down.
Other notable political figures at the ball included Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, Chancellor Philip Hammond, Home Secretary Amber Rudd and leading Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg.
Stanley Johnson, the father of Boris and a recent contestant on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, was also in attendance, with the reality show’s winner, Made in Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo, as his guest.
