AT 2ft 7in, Georgia Rankin is the height of an average two-year-old, but how does her stature affect her as she celebrates her 18th birthday? This documentary follows Georgia over the course of a year, and offers a portrait of a charismatic, charming teenager who leads a happy life despite suffering from constant pain in her joints. To learn more about her condition and how to manage it, she heads to America to meet a medical expert in dwarfism.

Great American Railroad Journeys BBC 2, 6.30pm

MICHAEL Portillo is back as he explores more of the North American rail network, this time travelling from Massachusetts to Toronto in Canada. He begins his journey in Boston, a city that has played a central role in American history. There he rides the country’s first underground railway and samples oysters in the city’s oldest restaurant. Ye Olde Union Oyster House was opened to diners in 1826 and is still a popular eatery.

His final stop-off is Lowell in Middlesex County and the birthplace of the American industrial revolution.

Silent Witness

BBC 1, 9pm

PART one of two. American diplomat Ryan Reed is shot dead and the team arrives at the scene to find his body posed – sitting upright on a bench with his hand tucked inside his jacket. An argument quickly ensues between the police and the US embassy, which claims the murder falls under its jurisdiction, while the Lyell crew fights against the bureaucracy of the FBI.

MONA returns to the UK from Karachi and, despite her injuries, is determined to investigate her nephew Danny’s suspected links to radical Islamic terrorists. But on the day of her brother Kareem’s funeral, the GP’s efforts to get Danny to safety have unexpectedly dire consequences for the family.
