England’s Forgotten Queen: The Life and Death of Lady Jane Grey, BBC4, 9pm
IS Lady Jane Grey really a forgotten figure? That’s probably a moot point, but it makes for a better title than, “England’s Less Famous Queen Than Some Others”. Anyway, this three-part documentary is set to tell us all about her, so there’s no chance of anybody forgetting her in future. Historian Helen Castor pieces together the story of the woman who reigned for just nine days in 1553.
House of Saud: A Family at War, BBC2, 9pm
SINCE the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was constituted in 1932, inexhaustible wealth has granted the ruling royal family total power at home and the freedom to act with relative impunity abroad. However, a growing regional confrontation with Iran has now placed the Kingdom at the heart of the crisis in the Middle East. Enter a new Crown Prince, Mohammed Bin Salman. The 32-year-old has pledged to transform the Kingdom and has taken a number of radical steps, stating that he wants to return to a “moderate Islam”. As the new leader steps into the limelight, this series also considers how this crucial moment in Saudi Arabian history could impact on the world.
School for Stammerers, ITV, 9pm
DOCUMENTARY following the emotional journeys of six people as they try to gain control of their stammers. A lorry driver, a teacher, a pharmacist, a photographer and two schoolboys have all agreed to undergo a course that claims it can transform a stammerer’s speech in just four days. The McGuire Programme is an emotionally-charged residential course run by former stammerers, using physical and psychological techniques, which can lead to life-changing results – but is not for the faint-hearted.
Inside No 9, BBC2, 10pm
NORTHERN double act Len and Tommy, more commonly known as Cheese & Crackers, last performed on stage together 30 years ago, when a fateful night at the Glasgow Pavilion when Tommy walked out on Len. Now the comedians embark on one final gig together in front of an invited audience. Darkly comic drama, written by and starring The League of Gentlemen’s Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith.
