DONALD Trump's visit to the UK could involve being dropped off in the Western Isles to keep him far away from major protests.

According to the Daily Record, senior Government figures are considering sending Trump to his old mother's home on the Isle of Lewis.

The Government are concernd that it would be impossible for a state visit to proceed without facing massive resistance in response, with thousands already voicing intent to protest his arrival.

A date has yet to be set for the visit, though it is currently suspected that he may visit at the end of February to open the new US embassy.

A Whitehall insider said, "Outside Windsor or Buckingham Palace, the plan was to get him somewhere where as few people as possible could get behind the fence."

One idea put forward involved Trump retreating to the Isle of Lewis to mark the centenary of the sinking of the HMY Iolaire, a Navy ship that sank on Hogmanay 1918, killing 201.

The president's family ties to the Outer Hebrides would be used as an excuse to keep him as far from protesters as possible.

The airport in Stornoway can accommodate Nato bombers, therefore would be able to comfortably host Air Force One, the US president's plane.
