FACEBOOK has been accused of doing “no work” to effectively uncover Russian-linked accounts and their attempts to influence British politics.

MP Damian Collins, chairman of the House of Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, said the social network had failed to give a “full response” to information requests.

Collins’ claim comes after Facebook said its investigation into alleged Russian attempts to influence the EU referendum had found only three adverts linked to a propaganda group.

The social network had been asked for details on Russian account activity as part of the committee’s inquiry into fake news.

“Facebook responded only with regards to funded advertisements to audiences in the UK from the 470 accounts and pages run by the Russian-based Internet Research Agency, which had been active during the US election,” Collins wrote on Twitter.

“It would appear that no work has been done by Facebook to look for other fake accounts and pages that could be linked to Russian-backed agencies and which were active during the EU referendum.”
