THE National’s readership loves what Scotland can offer... and that’s why its the only newspaper in which we advertise.

Great North Lodges has roots going back to 1983. We operate a luxury self-catering rental agency on behalf of 42 owners based in Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park.

What makes us unique is that the vast majority of lodges have outside hot tubs and log stoves and are situated in fabulous locations. We boast a wide variety of lodges such as log cabins and period villas that can suit all party sizes from two people to 23. There is something for all budgets.

We advertise Great North Lodges through different multimedia platforms but basically the only printed advertising we do is with The National as its readership gets and loves what Scotland can offer, so it hits our target market. About 70 per cent of our guests live in Scotland!

Both directors of Great North Lodges are very pro-independence and feel that it is important to support a pro-independence publication. It is clearly wrong that every other Scottish newspaper title champions the Unionist line as if it were the only natural political position... It is not! Scotland is divided approximately 50-50 on the independence position, yet the Unionist and the British Government’s position on independence is constantly promoted as if it were the norm.

The National questions this claim and that’s why we support it.

WE are forward-thinking, inclusive and ambitious. That’s why Gracefruit Ltd is proud to be a family-owned Scottish business.

Supplying raw ingredients, packaging and other supplies for soap makers and cosmetics producers, Gracefruit has grown from a one-room, one-woman operation to an ever-expanding business with a fully staffed warehouse and distributors across Europe.

These strong links to businesses across the continent have only reinforced our belief that Scotland’s future growth and success lies with our friends and colleagues throughout Europe.

Gracefruit Ltd is delighted to be part of The National’s third birthday celebrations, because The National shares our view of Scotland’s present and our hopes for its future.

In an increasingly narrow media landscape, a newspaper like The National offers a much-needed broader perspective on Scotland’s potential place in the world.

Like Scotland, Gracefruit Ltd is forward-thinking, inclusive and ambitious. These are the hallmarks of a successful business – and a successful country.

As our business has grown and developed thanks to our close ties with Europe, so should Scotland. Free to make our way as a positive and progressive nation as a full part of the European Union, there’s little we can’t achieve.

Here’s to a bright future for all of us.

ETHICS are at the heart of what we do. Hand Up Events creates events that focus on cultural exchange, primarily platforming and promoting Fairtrade as well ethical and local trade in high footfall locations.

Our events are unique in that we have organisations attending from around the globe that come to sell and promote their ethical and Fairtrade products, a circular economy that benefits everyone within the chain.

The Dundee Scottish & Ethical Christmas Fair – the UK’s flagship ethical Christmas event – is a perfect example of how our events provide shoppers with a very exciting range of unique gifts.

This year we have local Dundee mural artist Milo Glen joining us for his first Hand Up Events experience.

His work is really exciting and we’re sure his talent will shine through.

AS the only Scottish whisky company to publicly support independence, we felt that our products would be a natural fit with The National’s readership.

J&A Mitchell & Co Ltd also support the idea of a more diverse media industry in Scotland, with all sides of the political spectrum being given the opportunity to air their opinions and have their views reflected in print.

The National is the only daily newspaper that openly supports Scottish independence and it is important that the views and opinions pertinent to that political viewpoint are given due publicity.

It is also important to view world affairs from a Scottish perspective rather than a British one as many global issues are viewed very differently in Scotland and do not necessarily have the same impact north and south of the Border.

Springbank is a unique distillery in a unique part of Scotland – Campbeltown on the Mull of Kintyre. It is the only remaining distillery in the country to carry out 100 per cent of the production process on site and visitors often remark that touring the distillery is like taking a step back in time into the Victorian era.

Springbank remains in the ownership of its founding family and employs 80 staff in order to continue practising traditional production techniques, including malting all of its own barley on concrete malt floors rather than bulk buying from larger suppliers.

Alongside its flagship Springbank Single Malt, the distillery also produces two other varieties – the heavily prated, smokey Longrow and the lighter, more floral, triple-distilled Hazelburn.

The company also owns and operates the neighbouring Mitchell’s Glengyle Distillery, which was originally operated from 1872 until 1925 before being revived in 2004 by Springbank Chairman Hedley G Wright. Glengyle is the home of Kilkerran Single Malt, which was released as a 12-year-old for the first time in 2016 and continues to go from strength to strength.

OUR Scottish maps created something of a storm after being featured in The National in March, with orders from as far afield as the Congo and Singapore!

With XYZ Maps celebrating its 20th anniversary next year, we are delighted that the Chinese government recently recognised us with our largest ever export order. The National Geomatics Centre bought all our map artwork and our world map database as the basis for their new world database. That takes us to more than 25 per cent of sales coming from outside the UK, adding to our existing success in Germany, Russia and Australia. With Brexit probably about to cause a UK recession, increasing export sales is a top priority.

Meanwhile, our Postcode map series now includes 200 titles, while we prepare large-format (over 2m) maps for everyone from the interiors enthusiast who wanted one to decorate his kitchen to the graphic designers doing an etched glass ceiling world map for a London office block.

For those wanting to make maps we provide the Avenza MAPublisher software and Pitney Bowes MapInfo system. Users include the RAF, Ordnance Survey, the National Air Traffic Service and many local authorities.

Bruce Arms, aka Democracy House, wholeheartedly congratulates The National team for braving the media homogeneity.

In the creation of a space for voices new, and old, to further reflect and articulate the narrative of the independence movement in Scotland, The National improves the chance for us all to come to a shared understanding of our situation.

Regardless of what you think about Scotland’s constitutional future, a free and diverse media, which expresses the multiplicity of perspectives in any given community, aids effective power-sharing and, most importantly, improves decision-making for the whole.

While the apocalyptic nature of our times might make us shudder, the unlimited resource of human creativity combined with the continuing democratising of our mass communications surely offers a ray of hope.

Perhaps not only can we make better meaning of what we live through but also enjoy better craic with our fellow citizens through sharing all of our stories!
