THERESA May's Government has been branded chaotic and incoherent by top European officials in a leaked paper.
The paper includes accounts of meetings where Brexit was barely mentioned by David Davis, the Brexit Secretary, as well as worries over the "unimpressive" behaviour of Boris Johnson.
The paper, leaked from the Irish Government, is based on a compliation of reports from Irish embassies across Europe between November 6 and 10.
The Liberal Democrats said the paper, obtained by RTE news, showed that British ministers were “turning the UK into an international embarrassment” on Brexit.
One such example listed in the report involved Davis meeting with the French ministers for defence and foreign affairs, then failing to talk about Brexit.
The paper says: “Despite having billed this in the media in advance as a meeting to ‘unblock’ French resistance, Davis hardly mentioned Brexit at all during the meeting, much to French surprise, focusing instead on foreign policy issues.”
The Czech deputy minister for foreign affairs, Jakub Durr, told officials he "felt sorry for British ambassadors around the EU trying to communicate a coherent message when there is political confusion at home" following a meeting with Boris Johnson.
In Latvia, senior Government officials said UK minister had made “a poor impression" while in Luxembourg Ian Forrester, the British judge in the European Court of Justice, complained about "the quality of politicians in Westminster".
This report surmises many of the significant concerns across Europe that will likely hinder negotiations ahead of next month's summit.
Both the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin and Downing Street declined to comment, according to The Herald.
Tom Brake for the Liberal Democrats said: “At the end of this process, when the final deal is on the table, or the chaos and confusion of no deal presents itself, the British people must be given a chance to exit from Brexit."
