A SCOTTISH Conservative MP accused of being a “Brexit mutineer” by a London newspaper has received a Christmas card calling him a “Judas”, a “traitor” and demanding he leave the UK never to return.

Paul Masterton posted a photo on Twitter yesterday of the sinister message scrawled inside the card, which told him to have a “Brexit Christmas”.

It read: “17.5 million. 52% voted leave. Pack your suitcase. Leave the UK. And don’t return ever. You: traitor.”

The sender marked the card in capital letters, headed the card “To Judas” and crossed out “Happy” in the pre-printed greeting, replacing it to read: “Brexit Christmas”.

The East Renfrewhire MP is one of 15 Tory MPs planning to rebel against the UK Government’s plan to enshrine the date and time of Brexit into law. May wants to enshrine in primary legislation the moment of withdrawal as 11pm on March 29, 2019, but rebels have argued that locking in the date could tie the hands of British negotiators.

Masterton’s photograph appeared on the front page of the Daily Telegraph last Wednesday along with 14 colleagues under the headline “Brexit mutineers”. Former minister Anna Soubry, whose picture also appeared, has since received 13 threatening online messages.

Posting the card on Twitter, Masterton tried to make light of the abusive card.

He tweeted: “I feel bad for the trees who died in vain to make this card.”

And he even got a response from former LibDem leader Tim Farron, who said he had also received a similar card too.

“Amen brother,” he replied with a pic of his own, which read “Get over yourselves!”.

Masterton later wrote to his constituents in East Renfrewshire, which voted 3 to 1 to Remain, saying he intended to support the Government in passing the Withdrawal Bill. But he went on: “This is not a question of if we leave the EU, or even when, those things are settled. It is a question of how.”
