Saltires and Catalan flags are waved as tearful supporters celebrate independence

Catalonia has declared independence from Spain, and thousands of Catalans took to the street to celebrate. At the same time, Madrid moved to establish direct rule in the new republic. Nobody is really sure what comes next, but for now tearful pro-independence activists are celebrating a historic moment.
