ANAS Sarwar's campaign team were left red-faced last night after sending out a mass email promising to support Britain's wealthiest people.

In a gaffe email announcing his position on income tax, Sarwar committed himself to following the "guiding principle that we should should redistribute wealth from the many to the few".

Hazel June Nolan, who spotted the embarrasing mistake, was left wondering who was signing off on Sarwar's material in a Scottish Labour leadership contest which has been plagued by mishaps.

Only today the campaign was branded a "farce" after it emerged that a senior Scottish Socialist activist was registered to vote in the contest. She says she didn't know anything about it.

Ten days ago a top official in Anas Sarwar’s local branch quit less than a day after he raised concerns about a surge in members.

A spokesperson from Anas Sarwar's campaign responded: “It’s easy to avoid typos in a tax plan, if  – like Richard Leonard’s campaign – you don’t have a tax plan.

“Anas has put forward the boldest income tax plan in Holyrood’s history, including a tax cut for every single worker earning below the average income of £28,000 and a 50p top rate for the richest 2 per cent of Scots.

“That’s what being radical looks like, and we’ve heard nothing about fairer taxation from Richard’s campaign yet.”

The ballot for the position of Scottish Labour leader opens tomorrow.
