THROUGHOUT much of their 25 years together, Glasgow band Smackvan have only occasionally played live, preferring the confines of the studio. That’s appropriate for a band who make music which feels secretive and understated, haunted and enveloping.

A core of Micheal Feeney, Owen McAulay and Gerry Elliot since 2012’s Sound Is Space album, Smackvan emerge blinking into the light for a gig at the Old Hairdressers to launch new album The Palace Of Varieties, a nocturnal, introspective record suited to the darkening days.

Doughty outsiders whose sparse atmospherics will be enjoyed by fans of ambient and post-rock’s more reflective side, see what you think on this rare date which will see support from illustrator/musician Alec Cheer and the Garnethill Soundsystem.

Nov 18, The Old Hairdressers, Glasgow, 7.30pm, £5, £3 concs.

The Palace Of Varieties is released on November 2
