SHE has several doughballs under her command in Holyrood and on local councils, but now Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson is planning to use her loaf and avoid crumbling when she appears on a special celebrity edition of the Great British Bake Off.

Davidson was previously a guest on the baking show’s spin-off, An Extra Slice, when it was shown on the BBC, but now she is set to air her recipes on the Channel 4 version of the show, which has always relied on puns for humour.

For some reason there have been frequent references to soggy bottoms on Bake Off over the years, but Davidson will be hoping to avoid such a verdict and instead be pure bread brilliant on the show in aid of charity.

A competitive sort, Davidson is certain to leave no scone unturned as she tries to win the show. It’s the yeast she can do.

The news has already had her opponents grinning – SNP MSP James Dornan tweeted that her recipe would be for “Empire Biscuits”.

The icing queen of the Conservatives will not trifle with the occasion, that’s for sure, and will no doubt remind us what a flan she is of the Prime Minister – which could be her soon, if only she wasn’t as Scottish as shortie.

She has always been tough on spongers, but does like an occasional waffle, so hopefully when Paul Hollywood gives her the thumbs-down she will not storm off in the cream puff.

Still, she can always rely on her tabloid cheerleaders, the Currant Bun – English version – to write that any criticism of her is a load of bannocks.

Davidson will no doubt hope that, unlike her party, she will be able to mix the ingredients without a fight, and her admirers will no doubt hope that when they copy her recipes, their doughnuts will all turn out like Ruth’s.
