THERE are only a few remaining tickets left for Alex Salmond’s show in Alloa this Friday.
Last week, the former First Minister and his cast, Des Clarke, Janey Godley, Sheena Wellington and The Carloways, kicked off their “Unleashed” tour at the Tivoli Theatre in Aberdeen.
I ALREADY SAW IT AT THE FRINGE ... IS IT WORTH GOING TO SEE AGAIN?
YEP. The National was at the show in Aberdeen on Saturday and we’re happy to report back that it’s bigger and better than the Fringe version. In Edinburgh, there wasn’t much time to play with, so it felt like the various segments were competing with each other. Here, though, with an extra hour, the show was much better paced and each of the performers got a chance to shine.
WHAT WAS GOOD ABOUT IT?
THIS was Salmond in the north-east, his own patch, and there were lots of local references to amuse the audience. Labour councillor Willie Young – he of the taxpayer-funded garden wall – was the target of a few jokes.
Janey Godley gets much more time for her stand-up, a beloved Hogmanay character shows up, and there’s also a new interview segment featuring Des Clarke’s uncanny impersonation of a bright orange Donald Trump.
It seems the POTUS is back in the north-east, willing to forget their big falling out to make friends with Salmond again.
He’s going to build a beautiful wall and make the people of Stonehaven pay for it, and plans to take over the SNP (“Orange is the new Mhairi Black” apparently).
WHAT ARE PEOPLE SAYING?
DONALD J MacDonald said: “Nearly walked out of Alex Salmond Unleashed at Aberdeen Tivoli when he began show with strip tease. Mercifully, only the tie came off.”
Ali Bee tweeted: “At Alex Salmond unleashed absolutely fab so is @JaneyGodley just hilarious brilliant show so funny!!”
And Salmond himself was delighted with how it went. “It was great to kick off the tour on home ground at the beautiful Tivoli last week. The crowds were huge and enthusiastic and my guests and I already can’t wait to take the show to Alloa.
“The show is extended from the one which sold out the Fringe, with more acts, more performances and even more laughs. The evening show is already sold out and there are only a few tickets remaining for the matinee. You don’t want to miss it!”

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
