STILL Game favourites have been turned into “Lager Lovelies” as brewers Tennent’s pay tribute to the show.

The Glasgow-based firm was known for selling cans carrying images of models, dubbed Lager Lovelies, for almost 30 years.

The glamour-style images were canned in 1991 after strong criticism for their depictions of women.

Now, Still Game creators Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill have posed in costume as their Craiglang characters Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade in a limited-edition run geared towards the Christmas gift market. The pensioner pair cut strikingly different figures to the models who used to adorn the tins.

However, Tennent’s bosses hope the festive gift set will attract fans of the show.

The seasonal special is dubbed the “Two Pints Prick Pack”, after a quote from the BAFTA-winning BBC sitcom.

The lifelong friends make that request to Clansman pub barman Boaby.

Alan McGarrie, head of UK brand marketing at Tennent’s, says the special edition could become a collector’s item. He said: “We’re massive fans of Still Game at Tennent’s so this special edition pack is very close to our hearts.

“We’ve been watching Jack and Victor’s exploits since the show began 15 years ago, and it’s fair to say they’ve got better with age.

“While we’ve no plans to bring back the Lager Lovelies in their original form, this was an opportunity to see Scotland’s two favourite pensioners in a situation nobody could have imagined – so it was too good to pass up.

“The packs are sure to sell like hot cakes, so make sure you get in quick.”

Packs can be pre-ordered at the flavourly.com website.

Meanwhile, viewers can expect a new series of Still Game within weeks, with a select group of lucky fans set to get a sneak peak in a run of preview screenings at Cineworld in Glasgow starting next week.
