OUTLANDER star Graham McTavish is to ditch the Jacobite kilts to appear in a new superhero blockbuster, it has emerged.

McTavish, who starred as Clan MacKenzie war chief Dougal in the hit series, took to social media to reveal his casting in forthcoming Warner Brothers movie Aquaman.

Set for release next year, the film will feature Jason Momoa as the comic character, who rules Atlantis and has superhuman powers.

The cast also includes Dolph Lundgren and Amber Heard, with filming taking place in Australia, Canada, Italy and Tunisia.

Posting on Twitter, McTavish told fans: “Delighted to be able to announce my involvement in #Aquaman. Character has to be secret ... for now. It’s going to be awesome!”

McTavish currently also appears in supernatural series Preacher and played dwarf Dwalin in the three-part adaptation of The Hobbit.
