THERESA May making empty threats about the UN to an empty hall is symbolic of the UK’s place in the world thanks to Brexit (Plea to May ahead of Cabinet crunch, The National, September 21).

Already, companies are moving their headquarters out of the UK so they can remain within the EU single market and there has been a massive reduction in the number of EU workers coming into the UK, depriving industry, farming and the NHS of much-needed staff.

Brexit is a shambles, with Theresa May and Boris Johnson openly falling out on how to deal with the economic mess it will bring.

Desperate trips to encourage any country at all to sign up to a trade agreement with the UK are bearing no result, apart from highlighting just how poorly and ill-thought-out our removal from the EU is.

The UK is a country that no-one listens to, that no-one wants to speak to and no-one wants a trade deal with.

At least Scotland has a chance to break away from the looming disaster of Brexit – let’s prepare for the next independence referendum and make sure we win it.
