EDINBURGH’S historic King’s Stables Road – originally used for medieval jousting tournaments – is set to host a new concept in hotel accommodation.

Dublin-based Staycity Aparthotels launched its premium brand earlier this year and has revealed its second Wilde Aparthotel will be in the heart of the city centre. The accommodation is inspired by 19th century Irish literary giant Oscar Wilde, and the building will feature an arts facility with gallery and exhibition space aiming to showcase the work of local artists. Parts of the medieval wall will be incorporated into the new-build.

Barry Hickey, Staycity Aparthotels group development director, said: “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for us. With the brand’s strong link to cultural icon Oscar Wilde we hope the arts facility element of the scheme will become a destination in its own right, benefitting local businesses and helping King’s Stables Road become a new arts centre for the city.”
