THE QUEENSFERRY Crossing has opened to traffic for the first time today.

The 1.7 mile long crossing over the Firth of Forth opened to traffic this morning, ahead of closing again on Friday.

The twitter account for the bridge released a short video of the crossing to mark the occassion.

Meanwhile, the Forth Road Bridge has been closed as all traffic is diverted to the new bridge. Edinburgh Spotlight captured the eeriness of seeing the normally busy bridge in a quiet and empty state.
