COMIC house Millarworld has produced a special edition of its newest title – with just 300 available only from a Scottish museum.

Responsible for hits including Kick-Ass, the Glasgow company – founded by Coatbridge writer Mark Millar – was recently acquired by streaming giant Netflix for an undisclosed sum.

It will mark another milestone on August 30 with the official launch of the second instalment in the Jupiter’s Legacy series, illustrated by Frank Quitely.

An exhibition of the artist’s work is currently on show at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, where the ticketed launch will take place, and Millarworld has produced a special edition of the title for sale only at the Glasgow centre.

Just 300 copies will be available.

More than 40,000 people have already visited Quitely’s show and demand is expected to be high. The illustrator, who will sign copies at the launch, said: “I’m delighted that Millarworld has created an exclusive Kelvingrove edition of the book, and that Kelvingrove is hosting our launch, Q&A, signing and exhibition. It’s perfect.”

Millar, who will not attend the event, added: “We’ve been hard at work finishing up this recent volume, shortly before Netflix bought the company. I’m extremely pleased that Frank will be launching it in Glasgow, as it’s home to both of us, and I only wish I could join Frank at the signing.

“It’s a tremendous privilege to have it here, surrounded by so many great works of art.”

City councillor David McDonald, who chairs museum body Glasgow Life, said: “We are delighted to work with Frank Quitely, Mark Millar and Millarworld to bring this exciting event to Kelvingrove.

“Their work has helped to cement Scotland’s reputation as innovators of the comics genre. This special event lets comics fans meet the creator of these artworks first-hand and discuss the intricate and painstaking process that brings these publications to life.”
