SCOTS spend 30 days a year on their personal phone or computer, eight days a year on social media, and twice as much time shopping as the average Brit — yet wish they had more free time.

According to a new study from Virgin Trains, Scots spend more than three months of the year sleeping, eight days of the year doing chores or housework, a mere seven days of the year exercising and four days a year shopping.

More than half of Scots (59 per cent) said they would go travelling if they had more time, with more than two-thirds (68 per cent) saying they would explore more of Great Britain if they could.

The top destinations people from Scotland would like to visit include York (45 per cent), Oxford (41 per cent), London (38 per cent) and Edinburgh (38 per cent).

Apart from travelling, more than a third (39 per cent) of people in Scotland would catch up with friends and family more if they had the time, while just few than a third of them (30 per cent) would go walking more often and a quarter would go to the cinema or theatre.
