TWO Scottish beauty spots have made it into a top 20 of favourite picnic sites in the UK.

Boden Boo woodland on the edge of the River Clyde by the Erskine Bridge along with Erskine and Galloway Forest Park in Dumfries and Galloway are at number 18 and 20 respectively, according to research commissioned by digital entertainment service DisneyLife.

Topping the chart was Three Cliffs Bay at Gower in Wales, followed by Padley Gorge in Derbyshire and Aperporth Beach at Cardigan Bay, again in Wales.

The research shows that picnics are most loved in Scotland with 99 per cent of respondents saying they were planning to go on a family picnic this summer and 91 per cent of Scots agreeing that food tastes better outside.

Scots are also more adventurous than most with 82 per cent saying they would rather have a change than pick the same location every time.

Furthermore, 36 per cent of those surveyed said they were willing to drive over an hour away from home to discover the best picnic spot, with a dedicated 18 per cent happy to travel for more than two hours to secure that prime location.

With a long drive on the cards, parents surveyed said listening to music (53 per cent) and watching movies or TV shows (43 per cent) were the best way of keeping their kids entertained in the car, with Scottish parents opting for the visual stimulation of movies and TV shows (55 per cent) as the entertainment of choice.
