FORMER First Minister Alex Salmond is having the last laugh after selling out his entire run of shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

With over 5000 tickets already snapped up for the show at one of the busiest venues at the Fringe, he is “desperately trying” to find out if more seats can be made available.

The former SNP leader has turned out to be one of the hottest tickets in town at the festival. Salmond is on stage for 15 shows with the entire run at the the 350-seat capacity Assembly Rooms selling out shortly after Alex Salmond Unleashed was announced. Described as “a festival of fun, friends and freedom”, Salmond has drawn the crowds with the suggestion he will reveal what he “really thinks”.

According to the Edinburgh Fringe programme, his performance will include “light-hearted banter and a few behind-the-scenes revelations about his time in power”.

Paying £22.50 each, audience members are expected to be told the story of his high profile clash with US President Donald Trump. Salmond will chat with a celebrity guest from politics, showbusiness or sport for each show.

The National has been sworn to secrecy over the identities of the guests – but can confirm there are some big names involved.

Salmond said he was thrilled by the interest and added that audience members will have a chance to have afternoon tea with his celebrity guests. “The set is in its final stages of construction and we’re desperately trying to get a few more seats built — as long as people don’t mind swinging from the chandeliers,” he said.

“I am really looking forward to this festival fun, as are my star guests. It is also good news for Big Issue Scotland, who will be our social enterprise partner, with other charities benefiting from the full run of the show.

“Each performance will include an auction for afternoon tea for four with my guest of the day, to take place at The Principal hotel, with all proceeds going to charity.”
