BEREAVED families bravely stepped out to take part in the latest Kiltwalk. More than 18,000 tartan trekkers trod the streets of Aberdeen to raise funds for a whole host of charitable causes.
Among them were Graeme Dorrance and his partner, Tanya, whose son, Sam, died last year after a 10-month battle with cancer. All his family joined the Aberdeen Kiltwalk to raise money for Team Jak, a charity set up to support young people with cancer related illnesses and their families.
Helping to lead out the 26-mile Mighty Stride were Martin McDonald from Banchory and his one-year-old daughter Bella, who was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. McDonald says the charity Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland (SBH Scotland) has changed their lives.
Ten-year-old Lucy Todd led out the eight-mile Wee Wander in memory of her brother, Charlie, who died last year from a brain tumour.
Sir Tom Hunter has guaranteed he will add 10 per to this year’s Kiltwalk fundraising total. In addition, one lucky Kiltwalker will win a new Renault Clio from Platinum Sponsor Arnold Clark who are gifting a car for each of the four Kiltwalk events in 2017.
The remaining walks will take place in Dundee on August 20 and Edinburgh on September 17.
