HIGH-WIRE workers got a unique view of the world’s largest equine sculptures as they gave The Kelpies a “health check”.

The Andy Scott sculptures were given a detailed inspection as they approach their third anniversary.

One of the country’s most photographed landmarks, the public artwork was erected beside the Forth & Clyde Canal at the Helix Park between Falkirk and Grangemouth at a cost of £5 million.

Each horse's head is made of 300 tonnes of steel, and the pair are now undergoing full internal and external maintenance checks in a process set to last eight weeks. Tours inside the 30-metre sculptures will continue throughout.

Richard Millar of Scottish Canals said the work will ensure the “waterway icons” will “capture the imaginations of people all over the planet” for the next 100 years.
