POLICE are investigating a suspicious package delivered to the office of the SNP’s John Nicolson.

Officers were called to his constituency office in East Dunbartonshire yesterday afternoon.

Police set up a temporary cordon around the Townhead area in Kirkintilloch, which has since been removed.

The package has been taken for examination by police.

Nicolson was elected to represent the area at Westminster in May 2015.

In a tweet, Nicolson said: “Everyone is ok. The police were speedy and efficient and took away the package.”

Police Scotland’s North Glasgow division tweeted: “Roads now open following report of suspect package @MrJohnNicolson constituency office. Package taken for examination & enquiries continuing.”

Assistant chief constable Wayne Mawson said: “Around 12.20pm today, police and emergency services responded to a report of a suspicious package having been delivered to the constituency office of John Nicolson at Townhead, Kirkintilloch.

“It is not yet known what the package is or if it is in anyway harmful. As is procedure for any suspect package police are in attendance and inquiries are continuing.”

No one was hurt in the incident.

While further details remained unclear last night, it is not the first time MPs’ offices have been targeted.

Police were called when the windows of the offices of former Labour MSP Elaine Murray were smashed.
