THREE graduates from a leading Scottish university are to help more women carve out careers in computer games after being made European ambassadors by a Google-backed programme.

The Women in Games initiative is sponsored by the net giant’s Women Techmakers scheme.

Timea Tabori, Alex Grahame and Amrita Bharij, who trained at Abertay University in Dundee, will now join 40 other ambassadors to boost women’s participation in the male-dominated sector.

The scheme aims to double the number of females in the games industry.

Tabori, who works at Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar North, said she was “humbled” by the new role, adding: “My advice to women looking to pursue a career in games is to follow your passion.

“It might lead you towards or away from games at times, but as long as you love what you’re doing, you can find the power to thrive at anything.”

She went on: “It’s hard to be what you can’t see. This programme puts some fantastic people front and centre and I’m really excited to work with my fellow ambassadors to achieve maximum impact.”

Ambassadors are expected to reach out to young women at school, college and university in their region to encourage them to consider a career in games.
