AMBITIONS outlined in the Scottish Government’s Climate Change Plan are high, but some sectors needs to do more to tackle it, according to four Holyrood committees who’ve been scrutinising the proposals. In their joint report yesterday, they said some of the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases have the lowest climate change targets.

It said the transport and agriculture sectors had to make a greater contribution than laid out in the plan, which sets targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions for eight sectors over the next 15 years.

The Scottish Government has outlined a new target of reducing emissions by 66 per cent by 2032.

Climate Change Secretary Roseanna Cunningham said the draft was building on strong foundations, as Scotland managed to beat its own target to cut emissions by 42 per cent six years early.

Ministers said they would consider the reports before they finalised the plan, which will be debated by MSPs next week.
