Born and raised in South Korea and now living in Berlin after several years spent studying in London, Peggy Gou took off as both a producer and DJ in 2016. Her recording debut came last January for Radio Slave's Rekids imprint, and subsequent EPs for Phonica White, the Ninja Tune sub-label Technicolour and another for Rekids found her crafting a succession of earworm house cuts out of influences as diverse as J Dilla, Patrick Cowley, Yellow Magic Orchestra and DJ Sotofett. As a DJ she made her Berghain debut, supported Moodymann at his DJ-Kicks album launch, played gigs alongside The Black Madonna, Jackmaster and DJ Koze, and forged strong links with Glasgow's Numbers collective. On Saturday she guests at the Sub Club's house weekly Subculture, ahead of which we asked her to take us through the five records she can't stop playing right now.

Tanzania Soundsystem — Msichana

My biggest influence of all is African music, so I like the Highlife label a lot. I've played this one a lot lately and it's a BOOM — you just can't go wrong with it

R-Tyme — R-Theme (Mayday Mix)

This track came out in 1989, which makes it older than me! Derrick May was one half of R-Tyme, and he's one of my all-time heroes. I recently bought this on vinyl but the quality wasn't good enough so I ordered it again, which tells you how much I wanted it

I:Cube — VVV

Another artist I'm a huge fan of. I got this record from Phonica in London, the original track from I:Cube is dope and there's a DJ Sotofett remix that's also amazing

Pellegrino — In Deriva

I like the Early Sound label a lot and one of guys there is a good friend of mine too. I think most of artists who are involved with the label are super-talented, and Pellegrino's whole LP is great, everyone should check it out

Look Like — You Dub (Mistress 09)

This is another great release from Mistress Recordings. I don't actually know anything about this artist though  perhaps he or she is new  but its a great EP. I really love the sound of the hi-hat in the track

Peggy Gou plays at Subculture at the Sub Club in Glasgow on Saturday, January 28.
